		<description>There are a lot of conflicting claims as to the first museum in the Americas, and of course no one dares research south of our border. The Charleston Museum (1773) claims to be the first, although its initial structure was destroyed by fires during the Civil War. Mexico does have the first Academy of Arts (San Carlos, 1781), which is still intact and in beautiful condition and does continue to exhibit. </description>
